International Queer & Migrant Film Festival celebrates its five-year anniversary with an extensive program from 4-8 December 2019.
This year IQMF celebrates its five-year anniversary with an extensive program full of films, dance performances, debates, photography, literature and art!
The festival opens with the film Lemebel, about the Chilean writer, artist and activist Pedro Lemebel (1952-2015) who opposed the reign of dictator Augusto Pinochet. The program includes more than 50 feature films, documentaries and short films focusing on LGBTQI and migration from more than 20 different countries, including Philippines, Sudan, Iran, Lebanon, Switzerland, Albania and Brazil. To celebrate the anniversary, IQMF organizes a retrospective of the artwork which Daniel Arzola, a Venezuelan artist and human rights activist, has created for the festival in recent years.
A number of highlights from the program:
Midnight Frontier, a documentary about Georgian LGBT activists. The world-famous night club Bassiani is their refuge, a beacon of
freedom. It is their fortress of resistance in a homophobic environment.
Ballroom / Vogue special, three films about the ball culture in the Netherlands and French Guyana.
The Sworn Virgin & The Girl, about the dying Albanian tradition where women can go through life as men as long as they remain a virgin and never marry.
The Art of Allowing – Dance as a safe space, a workshop in which Mohamed Boujarra teaches how you can use dance to create your own safe space to create.
Festivals for Freedom: International guests discuss how they organize and promote LGBTQ+ activities in countries with legislation that doesn’t ensure the protection of Human Rights.
Naked Berlin, an exhibition by the photographer Abdulsalam Ajaj and performance artist Mischa Badasyan in which naked bodies are the a way of reclaiming public space.
Cooperation with international film festivals: In cooperation with the Soura Film Festival Berlin, IQMF organizes a short film program with the theme sexual diversity in relation to the Middle East and North Africa. And in collaboration with the Porn Film Festival Vienna, a night of Queer Porn Shorts will be held.
This year the festival takes place in LAB111 and Cinema of the Dam’d with parties in Vrankrijk and OT301. There are also extra screenings in Utrecht, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Nijmegen and The Hague.

The fifth edition of the International Queer & Migrant Film Festival (IQMF) takes place from 4 to 8 of December 2019 in Amsterdam and in the surrounding period in The Hague, Rotterdam, Haarlem and Utrecht.
